SEO, the Be-All and End-All?

Posted on: May 12th, 2011 by Aida

There is a huge amount of talk about SEO (Search Engine Optimization) when it comes to selling your product or service on the net, but is it really the be-all and end-all?

There can be no doubt whatsoever that being on the first page of Google is a very very good thing and the higher up the page you rank the better. If you rank in the top three or the very top spot then you really should be doing very well indeed.

The one thing that the search engines don’t take into account however, at least they don’t as far as I know, is the copywriting skills of the person who wrote the copy for the website.

If the copy on your website is dreadfully poor you cannot expect to sell as much as if the copywriting was good. In fact you could get thousands of visitors to a high ranked website but in actual fact be selling very little.

If you are fortunate enough to be ranked no.1 in Google for your main keywords and are making sales week in week out and you are happy with your results then all well and good.

But if you are highly ranked and your product or service is not selling like crazy, it could well be the copywriting that is letting you down. After all if you are getting more visitors than you can shake a big stick at but you are not knee deep in orders, Why not?

Good Copy Can Save The Day

If you go to a website on any subject and you are not inspired, delighted, excited or otherwise turned on, would you not simply click away? Most people would and that is why it is so important to make sure your copy is good.

Copywriting is the major skill in Direct Marketing and whether it is online or offline, good sales copy is as important, in fact probably more important than it ever was.

You could literally spend thousands of pounds in just one year online on SEO depending on who is providing the service for you. Yet no matter how many visitors you get unless your copywriting is hitting the target, you could lose out big time.

In conclusion, SEO is important, of course it is. But if your sales copy bores people to tears or does not tell them what they need to know pretty damn quickly then much of your hard cash could be wasted.
